Career Management : Five Cs of Business Startup Success

| Thursday, 9 December 2010

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: K. MacKillop

Most people are familiar with the 4 Cs of diamond quality, but are you familiar with the five Cs of business startup success? Keep these five things in mind while starting a business.

1. Courage -- Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. Successful entrepreneurs are not afraid to fail, not afraid to learn new things, and not afraid to change direction. Courage is critical every step of the way, because startups don't leave time for indecision or fear. Successful entrepreneurs require the courage to do what needs to be done, even if some discomfort or risk is necessary.

2. Confidence -- Often, the courage found in entrepreneurs is driven by confidence. The belief that one is better, faster, and stronger than all the others is very motivating and makes it easier to deal with setbacks and frustrations. Confidence allows an entrepreneur to quickly become comfortable with new information and new circumstances, and is an important factor in effective marketing. Confidence allows entrepreneurs to be creative in dealing with problems and to avoid becoming discouraged during the darker times inevitable in any startup.

3. Commitment -- Business success doesn't happen overnight, and it doesn't happen for free. Entrepreneurship requires significant commitment of time, money, and energy to even get off the ground. It takes time, money, and energy to learn everything you need to know about your industry, market, and business fundamentals. It takes time, money and energy to reach the critical mass of potential customers to drive sales. A true commitment to succeed provides motivation and a true commitment to starting up the right way increases the chances of success. Commitment to a startup is absolutely necessary -- without commitment, a great business idea will remain just that -- an idea.

4. Cash -- No legitimate business can be launched on zero dollars. While there are free resources available (advice, web-hosting, informational sites), you almost always get what you pay for -- nothing for nothing. A serious entrepreneur needs to purchase tools and resources for planning and management, marketing elements, and production. They need enough cash to live on during the Pit of Despair (the time between launch and actual sales can be weeks to months depending on the business model, even longer to reach profitability). Even if an investor is ready and willing to back a startup, the entrepreneur needs to put up their own resources to complete the planning process before accessing the outside funding. No savvy investor is going to write a check without evidence of the viability of the business. "Free startups" are unrealistic and, really, ridiculous. Considering that starting a business is likely the most important life decision most people will make, it is absurd to expect success to come for free.

5. Character -- The image and culture of a startup is wholly encompassed within the owner, and any lack of character will quickly be revealed in the course of business. Honesty and integrity are critical -- the consumer public has had enough of corporate thievery and greed. And, with the current recession unleashing a virtual assault on working Americans, employees are likely to be far less tolerant of unfair practices and unreasonable expectations at work. Good character is not optional!

The quality of a diamond is defined by the 4 Cs. The Five Cs of startup success -- courage, confidence, commitment, cash, and character -- will determine the quality of your business.

Management Article : Facebook For Business, Can it Work?

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: Emily Leach
Making Facebook work for business can be a tricky situation for some, and others find it to be a blessing. The quick answer is yes, it can absolutely work for business!

The bottom line is finding the following you want and then creating a relationship with them online they trust. The trust not only results in more business directly from your immediate audience, but that audience will now share out your information with their audience … and now it's viral baby.

And for all the stuff in between starting and going viral, it's time consuming. Start with your real friends and your existing customer base; every time you meet a new contact make an effort to connect with them on Facebook. The latter half of that last tip is the most important part of the scenario, because that group of people have had a conversation with you and possibly even your product or service.

Why connect with personal friends?

Two reasons, first off it helps create a base of friends so you don't look like you just set up camp last week (even though may very well have). Make sure you spend a few days updating your status frequently at first especially so that the automatic updates of when you started gets pushed to archive.

The second reason relates to one the primary success of Facebook, or social networking in general, and that is to get to know people we do business with in this cyber world. By having personal friends it is easier to post updates in a friendly and personal manner sometimes. And your friends will enjoy your more business oriented posts as well. But just remember that the 'friends' that you met at a networking event want to get to know you, personally!

Now for a few notes on how to maintain your Facebook page without losing all you're new friends. I would suggest spending about 30 minutes a day updating and responding to others updates, per day. Split that in to 3 different sessions of 10 minutes; keep it from becoming a chore. Remember this is fun!

Once you get more proficient at using your Facebook page, start to upload a few personal images (not too personal of course) and begin to interact with some of the 'notes' request from others. I ignore all the games and most of the quizzes (although some of these are just a hoot).

Most importantly, do not harass or inundate your friends (both personal and business) with a dozen offers every day. Pick one or two business related topics of the day and post them. Would you want to be constantly sold to on your page? Then just use common courtesy here.

A great idea for business related updates are to find news about your industry and share the link. This way you are providing valuable information without directly pushing your products or services every time you update.

I love Facebook for helping me promote my business, and for helping get in contact with some old childhood friends. They ask me questions about what I do now and that gives me the opportunity to go in to detail for everyone to see … keep an open mind in this arena.

Career Article : 3D Capabilities Profile

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: trainingor

3D Capabilities Profile is a structured framework for comprehensively capturing or profiling one's capabilities. Using this, we can profile our capabilities, assessment of which is the first step towards career development. Similarly, employers or organizations would be able to use the framework to profile the capabilities of its employees to focus its development effort.

The highlights of the 3D Capabilities Profile:

1. Comprehensiveness: It is applicable to individuals in any function or industry and covers all areas one's talent, professional and otherwise.

2. Structured: It takes one from a macro to a micro level in a step-by-step manner.

3. Universal: It is applicable to individuals across geographies and levels in organizations.

The profiling involves two dimensions:

1. The capabilities we possess and

2. The proficiency in the capabilities

(Batting maybe one's capability; the related aspect or proficiency would mean how well one bats.)

Our 3D Capabilities profile would therefore cover both these aspects i.e. profile the capabilities or skills we possess and the proficiency levels in these skills or capabilities.

Career job developments or employee developments would mean either/and:

1. Acquiring new capabilities or skills

2. Improving our proficiency levels in the capabilities or skills

Structure for capturing capabilities

1. Function

Example: HR, Arts, Software Development, Accounts and Sales etc.

2. Industry

Example: Financial Services, Software, Automotive, Oil & Gas etc.

3. Roles

Five broad clusters of roles that anchor around one key element or core competence. A position in an organization maybe a combination of these five roles in varied degrees. From each of these roles, different kinds of deliverables are expected.

Example:

• Operations

• Manual or low skills individual contributor

• Knowledge-centric or high skills individual contributor

• People influencer

• Business manager

4. Functional specialization

Areas within the function—specializations that the function provides. A simple way to understand specialization is to take the case of doctors. We have doctors specializing in different areas of medicine, such as orthopaedics, dentistry, surgery etc.

Example:

Software – Applications development, Mainframe, Testing etc.

HR – Recruitment, Compensation & Benefits, Training & Development etc.

5. Functional skills

Example:

Programming languages – C, C++, Java, etc.

HRIS – SAP, Peoplesoft,

Finance & Accounts – Financial Accounting, Laws such as Companies Act, Auditing etc.

6. Behavioral/Soft skills Typically enables performance in one's role

Example: Communication, Delegation, Team management, Interpersonal skills etc.

7. Business/Managerial skills Typically enables performance in one's role

Example: Operations management, Marketing, Information Systems, Organizational change etc.

8. Avocational skills (Hobbies and interests) Our interest areas, not necessarily related to our profession

Example: Yoga, Languages, Sports, Music etc.

3D Capabilities Profiler is a menu-driven tool that helps us capture our capabilities and skills. It is pre-loaded with skills in different functions and specializations, and so helps us identify the skills or capabilities we have with little effort.

We need to understand what roles mean in detail. We will discuss that later in this document.

Proficiencies

Proficiency is defined as the ability to handle a certain level of complexity.

Complexity, in turn, depends on:

1. The amount of information to be processed

2. Number of variables

3. Interdependency of variables

4. Prior information available

The complexity can be viewed for each of the roles, for example

• Number of people to be managed

• Area covered under a salesman

• Number of products or service lines

• Intricacy of a subject matter

• Tolerance of error

• Mix of technologies to be applied

• How dynamically the technology or subject is changing

We define proficiencies at three levels (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3)

A simple way to understand the different levels would be to know the flair in the subject area, complexity of problems that we can solve, ability to create things with the subject or skill.

When we say that I am able to converse with some difficulty in a particular language, I am at Level 1. In Level 2 of proficiency, I am able to converse with ease making little or no mistakes. In Level 3, I am able to converse in imaginative ways.

In the case of roles, we can look at Levels of proficiency differently. One would typically move up proficiency levels with practice and experience at some complexity level. After we reach a high proficiency level of a certain complexity level, we move on to a low proficiency level of the next complexity level.

The aim is, therefore, to move up the proficiency as well as the order of complexity.

From a role perspective, the proficiency levels have to indicate the complexity level.

For example, suppose a salesperson has reached a proficiency level of three (high) in his current role, which is managing his territory. Then he needs to be assigned to a higher level of complexity (say, given the responsibility of the sales of a region), where he may actually move to level 1 proficiency.

Roles

Roles essentially mean how we deliver value in creating a product or service—how we use our capabilities and aptitude.

Functional specializations are the focus or a unique cluster of knowledge and skills, within a particular frame.

People generally perform five roles regardless of whether they work for organizations or independently. These five roles are universal and are good indicators of how we align our aptitude to how we create value.

Let us look at these five roles:

1. Operations

2. Manual or low skills individual contributor

3. Knowledge-centric or high skills individual contributor

4. People influencer

5. Business manager

Operations:

1. Involves coordination with different functions, including those outside our function (A production manager, for example, needs to coordinate with finance, purchase, R&D and HR)

2. Involves following a regimen, process, series of activities (Examples: a production cycle, sales process, customer support process)

3. Involves managing people, allocating tasks, ensuring productivity

4. Involves negotiating for resources—time, material, money

5. Involves troubleshooting in the process and making improvements (Example: plant breakdown, sudden change in frequency, leakages in the pipeline, increase in defects)

Individual Doer:

1. Involves the complete work of an individual or (only an individual's efforts (Examples: carpentry, programming, fitting, drawing)

2. Involves applying skills in analyzing problems and identifying solutions or creating something

3. Involves taking instructions from others and following the instructions

4. May involve dealing with the end user directly, understanding their requirements, and meeting them

Knowledge provider:

1. Involves good understanding of a particular subject or knowledge area

2. Involves expert or specialist problem-solving using our knowledge and advising (Examples: an Tax counsellor analyzing my income, applying tax regulations, and advising me on the tax savings; an Urban Transportation specialist guiding city planners on designing the right kind of transportation system for the city)

3. Involves advocacy – giving advice and guidance (an insurance domain expert advises the insurance application development team, a marriage counselor counsels a couple)

4. Involves taking decisions independently and owning those decisions

5. May involve dealing with the end user directly (in the case of a Doctor it does; in the case of a Urban Transportation specialist, it does not)

Influencing others:

1. Involves selling products or services or ideas to others (Example: soaps, healthcare plan, insurance policies)

2. Involves understanding the behaviour of people (could be based on age, geography, culture, earnings, education and so on)

3. Involves expanding network and connecting with people

4. Involves negotiations (could be prices, product or service options, trade-offs)

5. Involves comfort in managing or working with emotions of people (some refuse to take up managerial positions saying that they are not comfortable in dealing with other people's emotions)

Business management:

1. Involves managing a business unit, responsible for its financial performance (Examples: revenue, P&L, growth rates)

2. Involves taking risks on investments (Examples: make or buy, should we invest now or later, should we set up a new office in a different city or not)

3. Involves bringing people of different functions together to create value

4. Involves spotting and building on opportunities for business enhancement

Proficiencies for the five roles

Proficiency is our ability to handle a certain level of complexity. The measure of complexity varies for different roles. Lets us look at some of the examples of the indicators of complexity or measures we use for proficiency in each of the five roles.

Operations:

1. Size of the operations (number of people managed, size of the budget, spread of operations)

2. Sensitivity of the operations (tolerance for error, speed at which decisions have to be taken, the impact of decisions)

3. Criticality of the operations (financial value, strategic value, life cycle of the operations)

Low skill individual contributor:

1. Nature of skills (availability of the skill, competition)

2. Working conditions (where the skills need to be deployed and when)

3. Contextual variety (different contexts in which the knowledge is deployed)

High skills individual contributor:

1. Knowledge area (level of specialization, exclusivity, pace of changes within the knowledge area)

2. Contextual variety (different contexts in which the knowledge is deployed)

Influencing:

1. Nature of product or services (niche market segment or product/service/idea, competition, people's awareness about it)

2. Diversity of the audience (demography, culture, geography)

3. Value of the product or service or idea (criticality, sensitivity, financial or non-financial value)

Business management

1. Financial value or the Net worth of business (size, growth, number of people, spread)

2. Nature of product or services (competition, market opportunities, process, and technology)

3. Organization complexity (demography of people in the organization, functions, skills, geography)

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: James Copper

If you want to be an energy inspector you would do well to turn too many of the environmental study programs at the various committed U.S. colleges and universities. Boston University is one of these committed to saving and improving our environment through the training of energy inspector professionals. Here is where you can learn the ins and outs of making money while teaching others about green energy and the path to an energy efficient lifestyle.

Lets take a look at what a would-be energy inspector could learn at Boston University.

Its Energy and Environment Studies centre prepares those who want a career as an energy inspector or other energy professional or those who simply want to commit themselves to doing their small or large part in saving our environment from fossil fuel ruin.

The Centre at Boston University engages continually in not only education but also research and professional training in the areas of energy-efficiency and environmental analysis. The Centres perspective is problem-oriented and multi-disciplinary. The philosophy that guides the program and the energy inspector training is that students must have a systematic and broad exposure to the nature of our environments problems. The centres research projects are designed to investigate some of the most complex and challenging of our planets environmental crises and problems and to educate the public about renewable energy and train tomorrows teachers in energy efficiency.

Boston Universitys energy centre is made up of faculty who also work for the schools Geography department as well. An advisory committee of faculty from many departments advises on the energy inspector training. They develop the curricula as well as teaching the courses that train energy inspectors and environmental researchers.

The environmental centre is under the auspices of the Boston University College of Arts and Sciences. Students and faculty are committed to making us all avid energy inspectors if only for our own homes. They also involve themselves, and hopefully empower students to involve themselves in the discovery as well as evaluation and dissemination of essential energy-efficiency knowledge. The College is made up of 23 related departments and over 90 different majors and minors, all of which can interrelate to the environmental purpose behind the centre.

Someone can train to be an energy inspector or other renewable-energy-related career in one of two Bachelors degree programs or three Masters degree programs at the school. The curriculum is innovative and quite challenging. Research studies from those who train each potential energy inspector include such projects as analyzing pollutants in the Boston Harbour, assessing how the worlds supply of oil will hold out for our future, and the study of the changing climate all over the globe. Classes that relate to the energy and environmental centre energy inspector program include courses in the geography and biology departments as well as those in earth sciences, the universitys centre for remote sensing, transportations studies, and the centre for conservation biology and ecology. The department of international relations also offers classes of interest to those pursuing an energy inspector career.

Career Article : Create Your Own Job: By Building a Solid Local Reputation

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: Bill Glover

No one really has a secure job right now. Even if what you do is critical, your employer may be two missed loan payments from going out of business. Your customers may be in the same boat. And what about their customers? Any link in that chain could break. If you have already lost your job, you are probably seeing first hand how difficult it is to get an employer or client to take on any more risk right now, and hiring is always a risk. What can you do to make hiring you a zero risk proposition for a potential employer? Build a solid local reputation.

Gather references. Who knows how good you are? Ask them for a short note or email about your experience, qualifications, accomplishments or reliability. Don't forget to ask your teachers, customers, local heads of charities you've supported, people you've helped for free and anyone else who has seen the effort and diligence you put into everything you do.

Give a speech. You already do this all the time. Your friends and family ask for advice, and you give it about the things you know best. Write up a twenty minute speech on something interesting about what you do and offer to speak at a local university, trade school or library. Get everyone you know to come and ask them to bring friends. Make up business cards and make sure no one leaves without one. Get someone to film the talk and post it on YouTube and Metacafe.

Write an article. You've already written and organized enough material for a short article, something about the same length as this one. Offer it to the local paper, or a trade magazine. You can find how to do it under "submission guidelines" on their website. Remember you aren't trying to say you are an expert, you are someone with experience sharing it with other people it might help.

Start an organization (and a community website). If you aren't a member of a great group of people who meet once a month to talk about what you do for a living, start that organization. Ask the people you respect most in the field to talk about what they do best. Share news about job openings and new tools and technology that effect your members. Ask some local customers or employers to come and talk about what they are looking for in your trade or profession. Have a few free meetings, then vote on a small membership fee and some simple rules for running meetings. Congratulations, you are the founder or a growing trade organization in your field! If you are already a member of that sort of organization or see one starting in your area, join and start volunteering to do more and become more visible. A rising sea raises all boats, and building a good, visible reputation is only helped by associating with people doing the same.

The people you have worked with and for know how good you are. Get them to write it down, then make sure it's not a secret. One of the best strategies for finding real career job security is building a reputation for reliability and knowledge not just with your employer and customers but in your industry and your community at large. The most valuable reputation is local, where the people who need what you have to offer live close enough for you to be the one to provide it, but a national or even international reputation is easier than ever to build and can help you build that local reputation even higher. Getting a job can be as easy as asking for references and getting in front of the right people in the right environment. The best way to do that is to make that opportunity yourself by giving speeches, writing articles and starting the organization to which you would like to belong. Make it happen now!

Career Article : 4 Key Factors Concerning Your Future Career in the Stock Market

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: Scott Johns

Have you been thinking about a career in the stock market? Do you have the drive and ambition it takes to make bold and unpopular decisions? Then this just may be the right career path for you. While there is no cookie cutter mold you have to match up with to be successful in the stock market there does seem to be a common thread among those who have succeeded in this career. We are talking mostly personality commonalities here. So lets see if you have the right personality for this job.

First off do you think you can speculate with the best of them? We are not talking about uneducated speculation here; it could be called analysis in fact. The art of predicting the future has to be the number one character trait common among those who have been wildly successful in the stock market career path. Ask anybody who has been successful in the stock market, either broker or investor, and they will tell you it was because they were able to get in early on something before public awareness made it explode in profits.

That my friend is the ability to predict and speculate. That is what will bring home the bacon. Nothing ranks higher on the list of desirable skills than this. This is not something you learn overnight but it definitely helps if you fell you have a knack for it. Over time you will gain more and more experience and will refine those speculating skills. Who knows, maybe you will become the next Warren Buffet/Oracle of the stock market. Dont underestimate yourself by no means even if you feel you only have a small ability in this arena.

Varied education abounds among stock market professionals. Many stock market professionals have humble beginnings. Of course there are those who went to well known schools to get where they are at but the point is that is not completely necessary. Education will certainly help in the long run but it is not required. If this is going to be your passion and life pursuit I would say go ahead and get school out of the way. It would just pay dividends, no pun intended, in the long run.

Are you a leader among followers? Profitable decisions are usually the least popular. Read that again because that will be your motto and the varied interpreted motto of all successful professional working with the stock market. Are you easily swayed by peer pressure or could you care less? Be honest, if the pressure is on and you have limited maneuverability, will you clear your own path and make the decision with the most opposition? This is not to say that the best decision will always be the most opposed but it certainly happens.

Take all these factors into account as you consider you future career in trading stocks, investor relations, or being a broker. From large-cap to penny stocks these traits are all important.

Business:Four winning strategies to business marketing

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: William King

Business marketing, the simple act of bringing together the buyers and the sellers has gained such importance in business today that there are specialized strategies for this purpose. Various marketing strategies that are a mixture of innovation and expertise are tried out every now and then. While some of them are winners and hit bull's eye in the first attempt itself, there are others that fail. If you are a new entrepreneur and are looking for some winning marketing strategies then you have come to the right place indeed. Today, the consumer is more product savvy and hence you need to be more market savvy in order to get the marketing strategy right.

Direct Marketing

Of all the proven marketing strategies, none have gained as much reputation as direct marketing. A successful direct marketing campaign will give you amazing results and will propel your business to newer heights. If you can set up a database of the most probable and right customers and mail to the right customer all the time, then your direct marketing campaign will produce better results. The right customer will read your mail while the others will dismiss it as junk. You want more people in the right customer category than in the junk category. Boost your mail with the right information and dialogue. List the benefits of your product or program in small sweet paragraphs. Finally make an impact with it.

Online Marketing and lead generation

If there is anything in the last decade that has changed the way we live, then it is the internet. So you need to incorporate the internet into your business marketing program. There are several online marketing strategies that are proven winners. Lead generation, affiliate marketing, direct marketing and many more such marketing programs are available online. There was a time when lead generation on the internet was considered to be a dead end. But now there are more precise lead generation models that have put the earlier lead generation practices behind. Lesser number of fraudulent leads is being generated and the other online marketing strategies are also improving.

Guerilla Marketing

This relatively new low cost marketing strategy has created a huge impact on online marketing in the last few years. It relies on the principle that direct marketing is saturated and customers today are unaffected by these strategies. Hence guerilla marketing relies on getting you and your product in the places which customers are most likely to be present in the future. This has a great chance of giving your business the right kind of boost and a head start. There are many strategies that are used in guerilla marketing. The thank-you-take-away packet is one of the most used methods. This not only gives your customer a value added service by means of the packet, but it also thanks the customer for using your service. This keeps your company fresh in the minds of the customers.

Other methods

Besides these, there are many other marketing strategies that can be a part of your winning business plan. It all depends on what your target audience mainly comprises of. Put in the right amount of research and you will surely hit the right note with your marketing plan.

If you've placed second in a writing contest, will you jump for joy and push for better results the next time or will you be discouraged and find an excuse not to join again?

In life, you are always filled with choices. You may opt to have a pessimist's view and live a self-defeated life or you may decide to take the optimist's route and take a challenging and fulfilling life.

So why nurture an optimist's point of view? And why now?

Well, optimism has been linked to positive mood and good morale; to academic, athletic, military, occupational and political success; to popularity; to good health and even to long life and freedom from trauma.

On the other hand, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. It affects middle-aged adults the same way it hits younger people. The mean age of onset has gone from 30 to 15. It is no longer a middle-aged housewife's disorder but also a teen-ager's disorder' as well.

Here's how optimists are in action and researches that back up why it really pays to be an optimist:

Optimists expect the best

The defining characteristic of pessimists is that they tend to believe bad events, which will last a long time and undermine everything they do, are their own fault.

The truth is optimists are confronted with the same hard knocks of this world. What differs is the way they explain their misfortune---it's the opposite way. They tend to believe defeat is just a temporary setback, that its causes are confined to this one case.

Optimists tend to focus on and plan for the 'problem' at hand. They use 'positive reinterpretation.' In other words, they most likely reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow. Such people are unfazed by bad situation, they perceive it is a challenge and try harder.

They won't say "things will never get better," "If I failed once, it will happen again" and "If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, then it will happen in my whole life."

Positive expectancies of optimists also predict better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies and unlikely turn of events. If they fall, they will stand up. They see opportunities instead of obstacles.

People respond positively to optimists

Optimists are proactive and less dependent on others for their happiness. They find no need to control or manipulate people. They usually draw people towards them. Their optimistic view of the world can be contagious and influence those they are with.

Optimism seems a socially desirable trait in all communities. Those who share optimism are generally accepted while those who spread gloom, panic and hysteria are treated unfavorably.

In life, these people often win elections; get voted most congenial and sought for advice.

When the going gets tough, optimists get tougher

Optimists typically maintain higher levels of subjective well-being during times of stress than do people who are less optimistic. In contrast, pessimists are likely to react to stressful events by denying that they exist or by avoiding dealing with problems. Pessimists are more likely to quit trying when difficulties arise.

They persevere. They just don't give up easily, they are also known for their patience. Inching their way a step closer to that goal or elusive dream.

Optimists are healthier and live longer

Medical research has justified that simple pleasures and a positive outlook can cause a measurable increase in the body's ability to fight disease.

Optimists' health is unusually good. They age well, much freer than most people from the usual physical ills of middle age. And they get to outlive those prone to negative thoughts.

So why not be an optimist today? And think positively towards a more fulfilled life.

Why not look forward to success in all your endeavors? Why not be resilient? Like everybody else you are bound to hit lows sometimes but don't just stay there. Carry yourself out of the mud and improve your chances of getting back on the right track. And why not inspire others to remove their dark-colored glasses and see life in the bright side?

Personal Development : 10 Powerful Tips to Improve Self Confidence

|

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

by: Jon Mercer

If you find yourself feeling like you're "in a rut" and not appreciating yourself as much as you should, there are simple changes you can make to improve self-confidence and take charge of your life again. Confidence affects every area of life, from relationships to the workplace. And improving your self-confidence will always have a beneficial effect on both your relationships with others, and your ability to handle the little ups and downs that life can throw at us from time to time.

As a personal development coach, I have worked with many individuals to increase self-esteem and self-acceptance. The following 10 tips have proven time and again to improve self-confidence for a wide variety of people.

1. Clothes Make the Man and Woman. Yes, it's an old cliche', but that doesn't make it any less true. When we dress confidently, we feel confident. Try this experiment: for one week, dress like the person you want to be, NOT the person you think you are. This one is simple change can dramatically improve self-confidence.

2. Stop Trying so Hard. Improving confidence should not be about struggling. Give up trying to be a perfectionist, and give yourself permission to be a human being who will naturally make mistakes sometimes. A sure-fire way to feel inferior is to set the bar too high in every area of your life. Cut yourself some slack -- you deserve it.

3. Focus Your Attention Outward. Lack of confidence often causes people to focus an inordinate amount of attention inward, on the "self." Make it a point to focus more attention on others than you do on yourself. Remember, confident people focus outward -- insecure people focus inward.

4. Avoid Energy Vampires. All of us know someone who seems to "suck the energy" out of a room just by entering. Give yourself permission to minimize contact with these people. Don't hate them or judge them in any way. Just recognize that they do not improve the quality of your life, and minimize your connection with them.

5. Take a Chance. Try something new and different that you may have been apprehensive about in the past. Enroll in an adult education class, or join a book club, gym, bowling league or other social pastime. Shake up your life a little bit. The change will do you good, and your self-confidence will improve.

6. Be a Giver. There is an old proverb that says "you only get what you give." With that in mind, start giving what you want to receive in life. Make other people feel as confident and worthwhile as you can. By helping to build up confident feelings in others, you are sure to get back the same thing. Call it karma or what ever you like -- it always works.

7. Practice Forgiveness. Many people are very hard on themselves because, deep down, they have not forgiven themselves for something in their past. If you're clinging to some failure or transgression from the past, recognize that you are doing it and then forgive yourself completely for whatever it was. Likewise, if there is someone else in your life you need to forgive, make it a point to do so. NOT for their sake -- but for yours. When we forgive, we purify our heart and start anew.

8. Affirmations: Ask Yourself the Right Questions. Some people repeat affirmations such as "I am self confident," which is fine, but you can improve your affirmation results by using leading questions such as, "why am I so confident?" The subconscious mind operates in a very simple manner. When you ask it a question like this, it will immediately go to work looking for the answer, and it will report back to you all of the ways you already are confident.

9. "Model" Other Confident People. One way to improve self-confidence is to model the behavior of people whom you consider to be supremely confident. If you can befriend a very confident person, that's great. But if not, just find an actor or other celebrity who is confidence personified, and study their behavior. Do this several times a week, and some of their confident mannerisms are bound to rub off on you.

10. Practice Gratitude. A grateful mind is a peaceful mind, and a peaceful mind radiates confidence. Practice making a daily gratitude list, and particularly focus on different aspects of yourself that you appreciate. Maybe you are a great swimmer, or good at math, or really strong, or a good dancer, or have an unusual sense of humor, or are good at design, or a great singer, or a really good friend, or any number of other positive attributes. Look for what is great about you, and then be grateful you have those qualities. Appreciating your good qualities will improve self-confidence, and help you develop the kind of positive self-image that is crucial to success in life.

Tips Seo:10 Google Dont's - Things You Should Never Do for Search Engine Optimization

| Monday, 6 December 2010

Don't like being found in Google? Here are some sure fired ways to lower your ranking and get the worst search engine results. These are the worst of the worst dirty tricks, and they can lower your Google ranking or just get you banned. Getting page views at any cost is not a good tactic. It never works in the long run, even if it may work for a short while. Beware of any company that recommends you employ any of these techniques.

1. Cloaking

Designing your Web site so that search engines see one thing and visitors see another is called cloaking. This can be done with sneaky redirects or with programming, and it's strictly verboten.
Nobody likes to be tricked this way. If they're looking for a Web site on knitting, they'll be very ticked to end up on a Web site about horses.
Cloaking your Web site is a sure-fire way to get banned from Google.

2. Duplicate Content

Spam sites sometimes try to collect page views by duplicating the same content on multiple pages. Don't copy and paste large amounts of text from your own pages, and certainly don't violate copyright by copying content from elsewhere. Google has been known to ban sites that duplicate too much content or at least severely penalize their ranking in search results.
This can occasionally cause problems, because some spamming Web site might be duplicating your content. If you find someone violating your copyright this way, you can let Google know.

3. Have a Robot Write Your Web Site

Just as it's a bad idea to duplicate content, it's a worse idea to get a machine to write your content for you. There are programs out there that duplicate the same content but make a few changes here and there. If Google catches you, and they're pretty good at catching this, you can kiss your page views goodbye. Write your own content. That's as simple as it gets. Don't buy "instant AdSense" Web sites. If this really made lots of passive money, they wouldn't be selling them.

4. Add Keywords that Don't Relate to Your Content

Meta keywords aren't that important to Google anymore. However, when you list keywords, do list keywords that directly relate to your site, and don't repeat the same keyword multiple times. Spamming keywords by listing every word in the dictionary is a great way to have your ranking lowered in Google. Likewise, don't use the trademarked names of products made by your competitors as keywords. At best it's a bad user experience, at worse it can get you sued by those competitors.

5. Link to Bad Neighborhoods

Google calls spamming sites bad neighborhoods, and linking to them is a great way to lower your PageRank. Linking ordinarily would make you a good neighbor and a good citizen of the Internet. However, just because someone links to you does not obligate you to link back to them. Check out the Web site first, and make sure it is not a bad neighborhood.
How do you know it's a bad neighborhood? Check their PageRank and scan the Web site for any of the violations you see here.

6. Hide Text

Don't try to hide keywords by making the background color the same as the font color. This is called keyword stuffing or fontmatching. Google and other search engines are increasingly sophisticated at catching this, and they'll likely remove any offending Web sites from their search engine index. Likewise, watch how small you make the text. In a variation of keyword stuffing, some people try to put teeny tiny text at the bottom of a page. It doesn't work.

7. Title Stacking

Don't try to add extra <title> tags for more keywords. This cousin of keyword stuffing is called title stacking, and it won't win you any friends at Google. One title per page, please, although you may separate that title with a dash to hit a few more keywords that do relate to your content, such as "Pie Crust Recipe - Homemade Pastry Dough."

8. Distribute Viruses, Trojans, or Other Badware

If your site is distributing a virus, trojan, or other badware, Google's going to remove you from their index for the public good. This should be a no-brainer.
Double check any software you agree to distribute to make sure it isn't harmful, and make sure your server is secure, so that hackers don't decide to hijack your Web site and distribute malicious software for you.
